The Bopcats evolved from Sydney bands The Humdinger Dogs and The Hawaiian Housewreckers. Johnny Gray and Peter Doyle put The Bopcats together in 1978 to play a New Orleans style of rock and roll. With the vocals of Jimmy Jessop and Annie Bickford they enjoyed success throughout Sydney until they disbanded in 1981.

They were one of the three bands to appear on Piranha Brothers ‘The Best Of The Inner West’ album.
